    Going Wednesday regardless

Hopefully all this Kansas bad weather is gone by Wednesday, cause I'm headed to Elk City Lake anyway. This is supposed to be one of the best hikes in KS.
My Claytor JH has not come yet, so I went to Sportsman's Warehouse and picked a Hammock Bliss. I'm hoping it Will work OK, if not I still have my tarp and I'll go to the ground
They have been working us 7 days a week for the last 2.5 months, but Wednesday they haven't scheduled me. So I'm OUT A HERE!

That's the place out east by Independence right? If so, that's a neat area. You'd barely know you were in Kansas anymore. Haven't been there in years, but it's one of the few bright spots in my Kansas memory file. Have fun and good luck with the weather.

That's the place all right. I've heard many good reports. Hopefully it will bring back great memories of camping in PA, and MO.

Awesome! I have never been there, so I look forward to hearing what you have to say about it...

I might be going out to Santa Fe Lake east of town sometime in the near future. I don't know if you have seen this video, but it shows the lake and an interview with the guy who runs it:

It looks pretty nice with quite a few trees. If I do go out there I will post a report....

Yes I've seen that one. I've also hiked out at Santa Fe Lake and it's a nice place. I went when the water was not running. It will be more beautiful when it is. If you go on the east side of the lake, the trails are good.

Enjoy. The weather is never too bad, just your gear.

Yeah, I'm with mitch on that one. Kansas weather is fierce on a nice day. In all my travels around this country and a few others, I've never met an equal to a Kansas thunderstorm. Amazing, scary, and amazing.

I survived a tornado that passed (supposedly) a 1/2 mi. from our campsite at Butler State Fishing Lake in a walmart dome once...but I wouldn't want to do that ever again!

Mitch, do you think Santa Fe will be good for hanging? Do you know if they allow camping off of the hiking trails out there?

Well, when I wet there I was still on the ground, and wasn't thinking about hanging. It might be good, I'll have to reevaluate the site. I did some talking to Rod. He doesn't just anyone camp off the normal site, was the way he explained it to me. But after a good long talk, he said it would be OK if I wanted to, but no open fires. Sounded good to me. He is a real friendly guy!
