Reading all the DIY stuff here I got that itch to try it out so I ordered up some table cloths and went with 7/64 Amsteel. Tried the technique of passing the rope through the hem. That didn't work out quite as planned. I neglected to remember that the illustrated example had material that he had hemmed himself. The table cloths I got, well the short side hem was made first so no open channel (had to open it) and it is so narrow that 7/64 just fit in it. So when I cinched it up it as tight as possible, didn't close up. I was left with a circle still about 4 inches in diameter. So I just squished that up and whipped it, then pulled the end back through the center of the whip and the bunch to make the bury end of a UCR.
Other end, I just did the fanfold, clove hitch to cinch it down, and whipped and pulled the end just like the other side.
After whipping, I tied a temporary bowline to hook to a toggle and dressed and hung on that end of the hammock to tighten them up.
Hooked up both sides and gave it a hang (sorry, only had cell phone so no pic yet). Pretty comfy! Better than the store bought one I got for Fathers Day. Gonna have to do the "Knotty Mod" or something to take up the flap I think. If I lay with a leg or arms kinda crooked then it ain't too flappy though.
If ya can't tell from the colors, I am Iowa State Cyclone fan.... Soon as my one buddy sees it, he's gonna want one...
