To bug net or not?

My rule of thumb is that, if it's going to be below 50* F when I go to bed (not the low for the evening, but around bedtime), I don't worry about a net. Above that, well...Florida...

If it's going to be near 50*, I'll bring an head net, just in case.

Whenever possible I like to be netless...I kinda like being 'unenclosed'.

However, I hang a good bit in the backyard with my kids and wehen we do we don't usually climb into our hammocks until late when the skeeter activity has does down for the night. However, with all the rain we've had this summer, we've had a bumper crop of skeeters and that gameplan hasn't worked out so well lately (anyone has read my last 3 or 4 blog entries already knows the story).

Once the weather gets cool enough that skeeters aren't so much of a problem, the net will come back off.

I don't like nets and only use mine when its midsummer and midge season.

Autan and a head net cope with most of it anyway and I usually sleep clothed.

Here in Mich. they come out when the snow melts and ya have em til a good hard frost. Yep unless you want to look like a desicated mummy in the morning. I had to upgrade to a .45 cause the .357 made them mad. I'm not saying they are bad but I saw 2 having their way with a pheasant the other day. Bug net required.

If you can sew or can recruit someone, or have extra money... consider something like the hug net... just big enough to cover face and if you can use tulle they can be in the gram range...could make a good backup.

Unless it is freezing out and the bugs are dead I would rather have the bug net and not need it.

+1 on having it just in case. I live in TN and sometimes the skeeters aren't an issue, and sometimes they're vicious. I was playing with my hammock setup yesterday evening and I was getting eaten alive. I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and get eaten alive.

After a good frost is another story.
