UQ best bang for your buck

Hey I see its getting to be the uq time of year. Im a new suspended sleeper and have already learned the lesson of convection and a sl nylon hammock. It was 50 degrees out raining and windy. I had a cheap sleeping bag a blanket to keep warm. I forgot my good bag at home that I was going to lay on. I was just warm enough on the coolest night and I plan on being out this winter so its time to get serious. (Thank God for warbonnets superfly because I was then only dry one out of the 23 of us. Also the only hammock camper. ) I am now on a budget due to restrictions at work. I now only work part time... so what im looking for is a good fl uq and tq that will handle cold Northern winter temps but also does not break the bank. I have read that some sales should be expected but I'm not sure how to find them. If anyone knows of any up and coming that would be awesome to know. Or even recommendations on vendors who give you the most for your dollar. I can spend some but I'm just looking to save ad much as possible. I should add I'm 6' 5" and 240lbs
    Thanks
    ryan

Hammock gear 3/4 length Phoenix 0°! Mine kept me toasty with a VB suit and sufficient top coverage down to -33°c. In winter you will most likely want some ccf to sit on anyway so under feet is taken care of.

There full length I am sure is just as warm.

I highly recommend UGQ, and they just started carrying the more cost effective duck down. Here's the thread about it: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=78242

Yes Duck may be an option for you considering budget, check link Paulie posted as well as you can see pricing on our website... At 0* rating duck is roughly $50 less per quilt, and just as warm as down. It is 700+DWR Down so there is a minor weight difference but for those on a budget, car camping, adventure touring, paddling, etc it will keep some money in your pocket.

Underquilts.com sells quilt shells. You fill each tube with down that you purchase, then you sew the end closed. The 72" one is not full length for your height, so you will need a pillow and a thick foam footpad at 0 degrees. If you can get to 5* with insulation, a breathable hammock sock might help you with the last few degrees.

No zero degree temps where I hang, but at 20 degrees, I've used pads with no moisture problems because I was wearing two fleece layers between me and the waterproof pads.

Before you spend too much, look at stacking a couple of used 20-25 degree quilts from the For Sale forum. If that doesn't work, you can resell them for near what you paid.

My current gear is almost all different than what I started with. I hope that you choose better than I did.

I tested my big synthetic sleeping bag the other night because the temps dipped into the low thirties and was snug as a bug. In fact I ended up falling asleep haha. I woke up just as warm as when I laid down but I also had on a light fleece shirt. I will be needing an under quilt to get much lower because I'm sure with a stiff breeze it would have sucked more heat out.

Jarbridge is a good value at $100. Add $50 to make it a 15° rating. If you wanna go nuts and get a more compressible quilt another $50 for Apex. So for $150-200 you get a really nice warm quilt.

I made a DIY the same size and using the same 6oz Apex. Its a nice quilt. As much as I love my down, synthetic insulation can be nice too!
