Hello,
Here's total newbie question for you....
How do I know what my natural laying angle is if I've never used a hammock before? What if I'm a right-to-lefty and don't know it!?!?
Hello,
Here's total newbie question for you....
How do I know what my natural laying angle is if I've never used a hammock before? What if I'm a right-to-lefty and don't know it!?!?
I don't know. I sleep head right, feet left, because I have some nerve issues on the inside of my left foot, and it just works out better if I sleep that way, which is opposite of what most people sleep.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!
That's a great question....one which I have often pondered. I sleep head left feet right (I'm left handed, not sure if that makes a difference) and one day decided to try it the other way.....felt like throwing a ball with the wrong hand. I was all out of sorts and could not get comfortable at all. Strange but true.
Hop in wiggle around a little and find what feels right...you will know. Like CampDavid said, it will just be what is right for you. I usually sleep on my right side. It works for me. With a hang or two you will find whats right for you.

Was there anything that indicated this before you bought your hammock, like the way you sleep in bed?
I don't think your left-handedness plays too much into this, because your left to right position seems to be the most common positioning... or is that because the hammock makers just made them that way?
Hop into what? Ha ha! I'm still in research mode.
Nice name btw. Is it yours or do you just like guitars?
I ask, because in researching buying a hammock, many assume a left head right foot position in making the hammock, and in one thread, Papa Smurf had mentioned it straining the webbing if you lie in a hammock made for left to right in a right to left position (I'm still not sure if I want integrated netting or not but ike i said, "research mode"....).
I sleep head right is that considered regular or goofy? the only advice I think you will get is to get in one and see what feels right. Maybe you could start out with a cheaper hammock before you make a decision on one with the knotty mod and big net.
I lay both ways (snicker) and have been known to change it up in the middle of the night. Which way I choose to lay often depends on the hammock choice and what's going on around me (aka, is there anything I wanna keep an eye on).
There's no hard and fast rules here. Your hang will evolve.
Just keep hangin'!!

I sleep both ways with equal comfort.
I am new to hanging myself, so when I've used my DIY hammock this summer (tablecloth gathered end) I've been switching head-left, head-right night to night, trying to figure out if I have a preference (...so that someday if I go with the WBBB XLC or similar I'll know which way to specify it...).
So far my observation is that it's more or less equal on either side for me. Almost seems to matter more which way I am oriented to the rest of the campsite, other campers, etc.
(as a side note, I also figured out that I think I actually like having a separate bug net, it made getting in/out and adjusting my PLUQ really easy... no zipper noise, etc...)
I just started out head right as that seemed 'right' for me but as my time in the hammock increased I found that I was ambidextrous. Spelt that right the first time! Didn't spell splet right though. I just think that the more time spent in the hammock the more comfortable you are in different positions.
