So, I've scored a nice remote waterfront site in the Nature Conservancy's Debsconeag Wilderness near Maine's Mount Katahdin. Got friendly with a couple using a site about a half mile across the lake.
One morning the couple paddles past in their canoe. The wife blurts out, "How do you stay dry in that thang of yours you got hanging there?"
I politely explained how I tighten down the sides of the tarp over my hammock. And, that the arrangement has kept me dry in 60 mph gales along the coast.
Then I mentioned that rain was due that evening. I invited her to stop by in the morning to check things out.
With that she started shaking her head from side to side and said, "Our tent leaks so we always break camp and head home when rain is in the forecast."
I just smiled and bit my tongue.
