How many baffles for a diy UQ?

    Hey guys viper here!
I post quite a bit about a DIY UQ because well that's quite a bit of money to waste so I wana make sure I do it right and I overlooked a few things.
1)how many baffles should I use? (I plan in making my baffles run vertical with my body)
2)noseaum netting for the baffles their selves right?
3)any good links to some deciemtly priced down proof fabric for the UQ?
4)I use downpropfmfor the outer shell ad the inner right?
5)the outer shell needs to be longer then the inner shell right?(I'm wanting a 20-0 deg UQ)
    6) I plan on buying about 1lb of 850fp down that should get me e temp rating I'm looking for right? Thanks a tone guys!!

I don't have very many answers for you.... but I have seen
some great DownProof fabric called Argon. You can get it over
at DutchWareGear.com for like 10 bucks a yard.

Not only is it down proof, but it has a DWR (water resistant layer) on it,
and it is really really light. This is next generation stuff!

Have you looked into DWR down? They now coat it with something
and that gives your down some water resistance also. At the last place that
I looked the DWR down was the same price. I do not know if there are any
disadvantages to this type of down ....... I thought it was neato

    Hey Viper.
    1. 9 baffles are pretty much standard.
    2. Yes, on the noseeum
    3. DIY Gear Supply http://www.backwoodsdaydreamer.com/p...materials-a-z/
    4. Yes, downproof for inner and outer.
5, Use a calculator to get the proper dimensions - https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=53701
    6. The amount of down depends on the size of the uq and baffle size. 1 lb will be plenty - you'll have some left over. Use the calculator and then round up for the total amount of down you need.

Winter uq's have 3-3.5" baffles and are considered 0*. 20* has 2-2.5" baffles. It also depends if your a cold or warm sleeper.

    Hope this helps!
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

Another option is to follow the link in Lost Bikers signature and get an empty shell from him. Stuff with your down add suspension and go.

One thing I'll add is however baffle chambers you make, and how many isn't all that important IMHO, just don't make them so small it's a pain to stuff!

And CatSplat's spreadsheet will help tremendously. After that, +1 on everything LostBiker said.

Here is my first one. I almost made too many baffles, but I made a very big UQ...

Per a helpful later link at DIY Gearsupply, 1.1 oz nylon seconds will save you $7 / yd.

This old man observes that whether in the sale of goods from afar or in knowledge and beliefs across boundaries to new lands, what is touted as next generation, the result of progress, is most often mostly just rare, new to the new market. I trust Dutch as experienced, but read about other supposedly outstanding fabrics in the UL outdoors fabric world, and learn that they turned out, often, to be less so.

Nice "hand" is attractive, but my own quilt will stay clean longer if I keep my sweaty face and neck and arms and hands and legs from touching it. (Torso already covered, so to speak.) So, hand feel when camping doesn't matter much, except in the showroom.
