Many years ago, my Dad took me back to the neighborhood where he grew up. While there, he pointed out a tree in his front yard where he and his brothers hung a swing using typical swing type chain. After all those years, the branch was doing fine and there was still about 6" of chain hanging from the branch. It was pretty cool to see my Dad thinking about his life back then.

Don't be surprised if they retaliate.
I see nothing wrong with screwing an eye bolt or similar anchor into a tree on your property. Your trees will be none the worse for it.
I would not do the same on someone else's or public property.
In the OP case, I personally don't think putting an eye hook in a pair of older trees would be disrespectful. A younger tree that is borderline of handling the stress, yes. I think it would be the same as riding a horse. They are creatures that can carry the weight after they mature. Ironically, I guess buying wood 2x4's to make a hammock stand, or wood 4x4 posts, would be the ultimate disrespect to a tree.

I had a young Kousa redbud which split down the middle after an ice storm.I used clamps and large ty wraps to pull it together and then inserted 2-2inch lags through the split. 8 yrs later the lags are completely enveloped and tree has never split again.Cant do anything about the future chain sawer though. It will probably be me and it will dawn on me when I see the shower of sparks and pieces of chain falling on the ground.
Hi!
I'd like to propose this question:
why should you even begin to think about damaging the tree ?!
Putting a screw into a tree is making a damage.
In a way, you are a guest of a tree.
Trees are so precious - I'd say like a crown jewels of the plant earth.
And then you come up with a plan of damaging or endangering it (?)
Than I would tell you: you don't even deserve a chance to hang anything on any tree. (You could than stay at home together with such a ridiculous ideas of yours).
Bye!
