If you go for 2m long and 1.5m wide that would give him a good bit of room to grow in it without being so large that he wouldn't be able to manage getting in and out of it, I would think.

Is the sin the hammock or what you put in it?
My "sin" hammocks have gathered ends and adjusted to fit with a Sheet bend. If you are DIY'ing a gathered end can be gathered at any length as they grow, at least until they grow out of length. All of mine are getting pretty big so I just did them full size and let the ends hang down a bit with a custom fit.

It is a great ideer with getting a ful size fabric and just Tye it shorter.....
