Welcome from the upstate. I urge you to attend a group hang, even if you have to go in a tent. You will get an opportunity to check out gear you can't see in a store and meet some great people. If you are missing a piece of equipment, let the group know and somebody probably has something you can borrow. There is a group hang coming up in SC at Santee and another one the same weekend at Hot Springs, NC.

Hello everyone. I've been lurking for a few weeks, so I figured I should introduce myself. I'm from SC and have been camping for years, but I am completely new to hammock camping. I recently purchased a Hennessy Expedition as my starter hammock. I haven't had a chance to take it camping yet thanks to the wet weather we've been having here. I have managed to hang it in the yard and get a couple of naps in. Looking forward to breaking it in this fall.

Welcome from Garner, NC. Yes, do go to the SC sprawl. I will be in Hot Springs, but I know several of the people you will meet there and I can promise you a good time and food. Hanging with Carolina (North or South) folks is a blast.
