    WV > Watoga State Park>Oct. 18-20>New 2013 Fall MAHHA!!!

    7th Annual Fall MAHHA Weekend!!
    Watoga State Park, West Virginia
    October 18-20, 2013

    Click to enlarge. Pics by Dan Innamorato, FotoProBono. Thanks Dan!

    A Family-Friendly, Self-Organizing, Hammock Hanging and Camping Event.

    Fall MAHHA happens because people volunteer to do stuff! It organizes itself on a Google spreadsheet.

    Location: Near Seebert, WV

    Park Information: 304-799-4087

    Park Brochure: Here.

    ***********************************************
    Registration: Google spreadsheet HERE
    Please register on the spreadsheet. It helps greatly with planning. The sheet is setup so you can change your answers at any time if your plans change or if you need to add or delete information.
    ***********************************************

    SCHEDULE of EVENTS: HERE. Check back often as things change at the drop of a BlackRock hat. Dutch is organizing demonstrations. (See Schedule.) Private message Dutch if you want to do a demo at the pavilion.

    GENERAL INFORMATION[
    Family-Friendly Event: We pride ourselves on being a family-friendly camping hang. Bring your kids. As an advertised family friendly event, we ask all hangers to use appropriate language and actions in front of our young people. Kinda like Hammock Forums itself so not a big deal for our group. ☺

    Pre-Event Tasks:
    1. Register for hang on Google spreadsheet.
    2. Volunteer to bring food and picnic stuff for Saturday’s potluck on Google spreadsheet. There are 2 tabs at the bottom on the left of the page. "Attendance Registration" and "Dinner Donations" tab. Additional prize donations by hangers to the JRB raffle are appreciated.
    3. Pre/post hikes and other activity announcements can be tracked on the spreadsheet. Anyone can post an activity. Announce and discuss it on this planning thread.

    Which Campground? It's Riverside Campground, which is 1 mile from Seebert, WV. Some people will enter from the west (Seebert), while others will enter via Huntersville on Rte. 39 to the north.

    Campground Map: HERE.

    Where to setup hammocks? WV is going to reserve out the needed campsites at the Riverside Campground early on Friday. He will pay for them in advance -- working off of our google registration sheet. The raffle will reimburse him for the cost. No one will need to pay for camping spots unless you come early or sty after the hang. Thanks WV!

    Driving Directions: Mapquest Watoga State Park, West Virginia

    Parking: Will be at a your campsite at the Riverside Campground. Only 2 vehicles at each campsite. We will give you directions to overflow parking once you arrive at the campground.

    Weather: HERE

    Bathrooms, Showers, Water: This is a state park campground so we will have all the amenities. Wow!! A MAHHA with showers! A first! Each site includes picnic tables, fire ring with grill, with a central bathhouse with toilet facilities, hot showers, coin operated laundry, and dishwashing stations that have double bowl sinks with hot and cold water.

    Campfires: Each campsite has a fire ring. October gets chilly! You'll want a fire. Buy your wood locally!!

    Covered Pavilion: Yes, for Saturday breakfast and potluck dinner!

    Vendors Sales: People often ask if vendors will be selling at MAHHA. The answer is no. The vendors have discussed this and say it's not something they want to do. You can see their hammock setups, tarps, quilts, etc. any time during the weekend and during the hammock tours. And the vendor donations make up a lot of the raffle prizes. There's no better place to see hammock gear than at a hang!

    Campground Quiet Time: 10 PM to 7 AM.

    Campground Rules: HERE

    Backpacking in the Area: Wonderful place to backpack.
    1) See WV's post 34 on this thread for more info on backpacking Watoga. Plenty of trails to pick from.
    2) Watoga is about 12 miles from the Cranberry Wilderness, another wonderful destination for backpackers.
    3) The Allegheny Trail goes right through Watoga State Park. A website on the the Allegheny trail is here.

    Pre & post hikes are listed on the spreadsheet HERE. Anyone can add hiking information so that others may join in. Discuss details on this thread. Info on the Allegheny Trail HERE.

    Greenbrier River Trail: Website HERE. Maps HERE. Great rail trail bicycle experience!

    The Beautiful Watoga Lake: Info on lake HERE.

    Watoga State Park CCC Museum: It's in the park if you are a history buff.

    Other Nearby Attractions! A variety of other activities are available including fishing on the nearbyGreenbrier River or hiking on the Greenbrier River Trail. Hunting opportunities abound at nearby state and national forests.

    * Cass Scenic Railroad State Park
    * Droop Mountain State Park
    * Beartown State Park
    * Monongahela National Forest
    * Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort

    Fall Foliage Link: HERE. Try link for the state of West Virginia or Mononahela Forest as we get into the month of October. Some links may not be working until the colors start to turn. Or call the Hotline 1-800-354-4595, press #9 for WV.

    Event Ends Sunday: People can stay longer if they wish, but will have to pay campsite fees.

    Emergency Information:
    • For emergencies, dial 911.

    Thank you, WV, for finding us this new and wonderful location!! For doing multiple site visits and talking with park administrators. You are a part of what's so wonderful about West Virginia and Hammock Forums.

    WV>Watoga State Park>Oct. 18-20>New 2013 Fall MAHHA!!!

    I'm in and my son is as well. Working on getting our youth director as well.

    Its a longer drive so I guess I'll just have to miss some work

    Also I will be passing by my hometown. Another plus. I'll try and get my old man's DIY hammock from the 70's. He tells me it had pockets for foam inserts for insulation.

    Cool, it's weirdly about the same drive time for me as before. Geography is weird. See you all there.
