    Integrated Hug

I've been checking out the HUG net and started wondering why I haven't seen any integrated into the hammock....SO....I did it myself. I took one of my favorite hammocks and did some playing around. Pinning and moving, and today I sewed it on. The noseeum is a minimal weight gain, but I think I will try it with toulle on some 1.1 and see how light I can get. It seems like it should work pretty well. I'll keep you posted.

Looks great. I do believe your on to something as all the ones I've seen are not integrated. Good job!
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

One thing I've never liked about the HUG is the assumption that you could keep the TQ on your legs all night. Don't you ever kick it off?

When I'm on the trail I usually sleep in my hiking pants. They (along with my socks) have been treated with permethrin, so I'm hoping I'll be good. I just did it today, so I'll give it a test in the next day or two. I know it's not for some people, but the ones that use the HUG really seem to like it.

I took my AHE HUG and rigged it so that it was permanently attached to the ridgeline. Never occurred to me to take the next step and just sew it on the hammock. It will definitely solve the issue I've been having with the Velcro separating and the net sliding down the ridgeline, along with the adjusting shock cord dragging on the ground. Sewing the tulle on might help with the fragility issues in that it won't be slung around and drug on the ground.

You might want to look at some kind of ridgeline mounted stuff sack or mini-snake skin to stow the loose net in when the net is not in use. The problem I've had with the Velcro separating on my HUG usually happens when I sit on the loose netting. With it permanently attached, there might be some damage if you sit on it. Just a tube hanging under the ridgeline inside the net to stuff the loose part into is all you'd need, and could likely use it for stowage of a headlamp or something when the net is in use.

Half the net is half the weight, and you've found a way to use even less netting than a standard HUG does.

Looks like I have a new project.

I don't sleep in the same clothes I cook and eat in, but I do carry a pair of jammie pants with me and tuck them into my socks. Like Caveman, both are liberally schpritized with permethrin. Never had an issue with skeeters or any other bugs.

And down here in TX, we only need TQs for about 120 days out of the year.
