Hello all. Winter is just around the corner here in the midwest and it's time for some Gore-Tex winter over mitts. Our winters are usually very wet and a Gore-Tex over mitt with my mil-surplus wool gloves will keep my hands warm and dry when cycling or hiking.
Since I have fairly large hands, I had to find a large hand mitten pattern. Google led me to http://www.fleecefun.com/free-mitten-pattern.html. There are child, women's and men's patterns (different sizes) and they're free! It takes 6 sheets of paper to print everything out.
There's instructions on how to sew them together about mid page.
Using scrap Gore-Tex, I was able to sew up a pair in about an hour. It took longer to cut out the pattern than it was to sew them up.
This makes a great (and easy) project for those that are just starting out using an injector. You can make the mitts out of any material you want - fleece, ripstop, wool, etc.
