So weekend before last, I had to make the sojourn back to Fredonia, NY to take my daughter back to college which is about a 7 hour drive each way. We decided to drive out on Saturday, camp Saturday night and the get her to school (another 1.5 hrs) Sunday morning and then I could head back home Sunday.
The weather was perfect with the night lows in the 50s and when we found our way to the parking lot at about 6:30, it was a short walk south from the parking lot to a large number of campsites (great for my still-recovering knee). There were a few ground dwellers camping out as well but no one within sight. We found a great little spot right on the creek with a fire pit.
It was my daughter's first time in a hammock (she has been a girl scout for years, doing a lot of tent camping) and really loved it. How could you not, I put her up in my blackbird, leighlo uq and mamajamba tarp. I think we have another disciple, and what better place to get religion than Ministry Creek!!
I found Ministry Creek on the recommendation by another Hammock Forum member, Redoleary. What a find! I want to spend more time out here as there are some trails that need to be hiked. It is a particularly beautiful part of the Allegheny National Forest. See the pics in my gallery (link below) - this would make for a great group hang spot! It is only missing a privy (at least I couldn't find one - maybe there is one over by the reserved camp area (about 6 spots)
