Webbing: Sewn loops or tied loops?

    Hey guys,
I'm looking to upgrade my suspension. Right now I have ratchet tie down straps but they seem to have a lot of stretch so I want to upgrade. I think I'm going to get polyester straps either these ones or the 3000# ones.

So my question to you guys is when buying straps do you sew your own loops or just tie them. I like the clean look of sew loops but I don't know if I can trust my sewing skills or my sewing machine. What do you guys do?

I hand stitch my loops with a union jack pattern, I use good quality Gutermann thread and I've not had one fail yet

Back before I had a sewing machine I tied some loops in Joann fabric straps. I figured it would last long enough for me to get some real straps and sew good loops. Well that was a few years ago and hundreds of nights on that suspension and it is still going strong. I made some real straps about 2 years ago but still haven't swapped out my old ones.

Re: Webbing: Sewn loops or tied loops?

A knot will derate the strength of the webbing, with the 3000lb rated webbing it won't be too much of an issue but maybe in the lighter webbing. A knot will also increase bulk and look less tidy. If you are able to sew it or have someone else do it...

I machine stitch them with Gutermann's Mara 70. I've made quite a few out of the 1500# webbing from Shippers Supply.

As mentioned, Strapworks will build to order. So will a number of our cottage vendors. I like to shop at home.
