School trip to monroe state forest

Because we homeschool, we have great flexibility in what how and when we learn. So while everyone else was standing outside waiting for a yellow bus this week, we took a three day two night trip to the Monroe state forest. (We being my mom, two of my boys and one I'm schooling in our house and two dogs.)A small forest known for its proximity to a varied array of power plants in Rowe and Monroe as well as some of the oldest trees in southern New England. When the fields were made all over, this gem was spared because it was so hard to get to. We liked it because the fishing was excellent!

My youngest gutted his first fish! And it was the first time Zac gutted and got to eat what he caught!
    Here's a few giant trees.

Our best guess for the ash trees was 5-600 years! Biggest I've ever seen!
The hammocks were comfy. So comfy the dig won't sleep in his tent. Someone remind me why I made a tent for a dog that hates to sleep on the ground?

We saw lots of moose sign and a little deer but the woods were pretty quiet.

Great trip, thanks for taking us along.

The benifets of home schooling far outweigh the...um there is no down side. I like the approach you two are taking too.

Thanks everyone. While we missed Nighthauk, we managed to have fun without him.
