Linville Gorge .net

I know we have several HF members in or near the mountains of western NC, & some of you have herd of (or been to) Linville gorge, NC. It's a GREAT place to hammock!!! Like a lot a the wilderness areas of the south east, I think it's safe to say, there are LOTs more places to hang a hammock than there are to pitch a tent or ground tarp.

Not long ago, we had another hammocker from NC to join Hammock Forums.
Although I've not had the pleasure of meeting Ken face to face, I've received lots a good info from him about Linville Gorge, NC!

Thanks to you (& others) that work to improve the Linville Gorge experience for anyone willing to read about it.

My favorite spot in the WORLD! My Dad and I backpacked there on Conelly Cove Trail and my Scout Troop 51 camped there several times. Also me and buddies fro high school camped often .. usually Pinch In Trail and Rock Jock.

It is a great place to go! I hope you can get back to NC sometime Shug, were it would work for a few of us to go to Linville Gorge.
Just please don't get any ideas about taking that unicycle down Pinch In Trail

I couldn't carry you back up that thing man

I've visited often, but have not camped in the gorge... perhaps you should organize something, Slowhike!

Maybe a field test for new packs?

Hi Shug. I love your videos and the things you do here. Keep up the good work.

Rockjock was lost completely after the 2000 fires, and the storms/beetle damage of 2004 and other years. We have rebuilt the trail over the last couple
of years with the help of the USFS. I recently adopted Rockjock as a part of the USFS Adopt-A=Trail program. The new trail is a bit higher in places to make it more backpack friendly, but still has awesome views at every turn. We like to refer to Rockjock as a "string of jewels". You can also still get down into the knarly places along the old trail like Razor's Edge, Zen Canyon and others.

This winter, a group of us have also cleaned up Conley, Babel, and are now working on the Linville Gorge Trail. That's a toughy for day trips! Hike in, work, drag yourself back out!

I'm new as far as hanging goes, but if Tim organizes something I'll sure try to help and participate.

Thanks Patrick. We have a "master map" with all the published and unpublished
trails that we have gps'd. It was compiled last spring, so there has been some data added to our master gpx file since then, but the map has most of it.

Thanks for that update Ken. One of my most favorite trips in the Gorge was in 1996 when a buddy and I hiked the entire Linville River Trail from end to end. I was tough! Up and down ..... losing trail alot... finding trail. Ran into an old friend on Babel tower. I so want to repeat that trip!
