    New to Hammocking

    Hello,

I have never been hammocking before, I know they are comfortable, but I have never owned one. I got hooked on the idea from Boy Scouts. I am almost an Eagle Scout and will soon not be a Youth in my troop because I am aging out.

I considered the idea of buying my first hammock, but I want the satisfaction of making my own. I have a lot of questions and I will be making another post asking them.

I am glad i joined, but I'm not sure why it took so long to make an account

Welcome. I was never a Boy Scout, but there are a lot here, who I am sure will love to talk. I do not know much so sorry not much help. Again there are a lot here that do. Just have to catch them on the right day and time.

Welcome and congratulations in advance for your Eagle Award. Making a basic hammock is quite easy. Risk has had a tutorial online for years: http://www.imrisk.com/testhammock/testhammock.htm
After that, you may find yourself venturing deeper into the rabbit hole of hammocking. There are strange and wonderful designs, trinkets and people to behold.

Welcome to the forums. As previously said, the diy section has tons of hammock designs.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

Congrats from an old Eagle. Getting into this has really made the old skills come back. It's great to delve more into camping that Scouts started you on.

Congrats on your Eagle, I have two boys in scouting (which is how I got suckered into being an ASM for the local troop), and after a few trips out, I realized that I'm not as young as I used to be, or the ground got a lot harder in the past few years. Which is why I started looking into hammocking. This forum is a great resource for any questions you may have, complete with the DIY videos and helpful suggestions of people who've "been there, done that".
