Maybe I'm missing something but
I think there should be a sub-forum on here for discussing and building hammock stands , Its hard to find information on them as it is now.It would be much easier if it were all in one place.

I agree. DIY and commercial.
We have sub forum for suspension systems, weather protection, top insulation, bottom insulation. Why not what you hang on?

Not being snarky, but that is what this "Do-It-Yourself (DIY)" sub-forum is for.
Just start a thread, within that forum, and you can ask people to report all of their progression with building hammock stands. I would like to see that as well!

I agree. It gets added to a few threads that are hundreds of pages long.

Unfortunately the DIY catagory overlaps each of the hammock camping subforums.

Gastar, if you go to the DIY forum and do a 'Tag' search then click on 'stand' you will be inundated with threads dealing with just stands. Have fun you will be there for a while.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
I used the SEARCH function. Put in hammock stands. Threads only. Got this....https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...rchid=10248653

Shug, interestingly enough if you make it singular 'hammock stand' there are 266 threads with that in the topic line.

Not all hammock stands are DIY, there are literally dozens of commercial options now, it is VERY worthy of it's own subcat.
But even still, there are so many threads in the DIY section, finding anything is painful unless you know word for word what the thread title is. I suggested to a few of the previous mods that the DIY forum should be broken down further into subcats the same way the main forums are (Hammock body, suspension, UQ, TQ etc.) The "Ultimate list" is great, but the first post is no longer editable, and very few people actually post anything in that list.
But under the same note, there should be a more robust search feature on the forums.. frankly, it's crap. and the fact that it skips words under 4 character long is horrible in a world of acronyms. Search IX UQ and get "The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : IX, UQ"
Same for "DIY" "HH" "TQ" etc.. making searching for anything DIY-ish painful because instead of searching "DIY Underquilt" it skips "DIY" and preceeeds directly to Underquilt, leaving you stuck in a mix of DIY and commercially made stuff, and that's only assuming the thread title doesn't use the more common "UQ"
Thankfully, you can limit google to search only hammock forums, but then it still won't prefer thread subjects over content on posts. But as I hear it, AT is looking at updating the forums software, so we can only hope.
As a general rule, I am opposed to the creation of more sub-forums that serve a narrow interest group. This one is different...we all use stands. It has merit.
