    The Dynafly is Born

    Hello all,

So after nearly 200 hours reading these forums, building models, researching materials, and learning how to sew, my prototype for my new rainfly is complete.

Behold the Dynafly!! Here it is hanging from my new turtledog stand and attached to my Clark NA.

The idea was to have a rainfly that provided central access to the hammock without a lot of fuss and would require the least amount of staking and guy lines as possible. I decided on vestibule doors that can unzip providing a better view, improved ventilation, and easier hammock access while still offering protection during light rain or sun. Here's a pic with one vestibule door rolled up.

The tent poles integrate with the tie out loops on my hammock and provide a very stable canopy. (They also spread the hammock saving the need for the pole modded Clark NX style hammocks). As long as there is weight in the hammock (go clark pockets!) they are still stable even with both doors rolled up.

With a few design tweaks, an expensive trip to Seattle Fabrics, and another 12+ hrs sewing I will have a final product ready for field testing. I'm so stoked. Its a labor of love so far and I couldn't have done it without all you diyers out there being all creative and stuff and sharing it with the rest of us. I owe a lot of people thanks for their design ideas. If you see something that you thought of originally (you know who you are) then Thank You!!

    This ones for you!!

This thing looks absolutely killer! Good job!
I may be dumb, but at least I'm ugly!

I've done so much, with so little, for so long, now I can do anything with nothing.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention. For weight savings, I can leave the side supporting poles at home and only take the center pole. Just guy out the 4 corners like a regular tarp and it functions exactly the same way. The vestibule doors can roll up and everything. I didn't take any pics when I had it set up that way but I will when I have a final product.

What IS the weight on it? With/without poles?

Well I haven't made the final product yet so I can't give you an official weight. The final fly will use:
    6.5 yds of 1.1oz silnylon
    8 small reinforcement patches
Some tie outs with grommets and d rings etc.
The poles weigh 1lb. total but will easily drop 3/4+ if you leave the side poles at home.
edit: oh yeah and 2 36" #3 zippers with double pulls.

I previously estimated the final product to weigh just shy of 2 lbs. with the pole. Anyone got a calculator and can back me up here?

That is really cool. Making something to fit your own specifications like that. It looks nice. Well done!
