    Static Electricity

I've made a couple of nylon taffeta table-cloth hammocks and been quite happy with them so far. I've noticed some static electricity when in the hammock and it hasn't bothered me. Today with the addition of a poncho-liner under quilt static electricity went to a whole new level. When I removed the UQ suspension and dropped the UQ, the empty hammock opened up like a ghost was holding the sides apart. Has anybody got any good ideas about how I can ground my hammock or UQ to reduce the static build up?

    Thanks,
    Mark

Kill it with cleansing fire! That's not helpful...

I don't know that you can really avoid the static buildup when you've got so many synthetic materials rubbing against each other, but i'd be interested to hear any solutions as well. It's cool at night though, you can see little lightning storms with your sleeping bag.

Rub it with a dryer sheet. That should discharge it. Might make sure and use liquid fabric softener when you wash it so it gets soaked with it.

When you lay in it in the dark, you can see the arcs as it discharges when you move. Lots of little flashes.

In the past I've used Static Guard spray.

Rubbing with a dryer sheet is helpful but a bit tedious. They used to sell a spray product that the ladies used on skirts and slips. Something like "Cling Free" or something like that. That is a point and shoot product.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Dude.

    I saw that in 1974.

    I wasn't camping, though.
