    Hanging and Burning, 2013

I took my Tablecloth hammock, TurtleDog Hammock stand and Climashield UQ out to Nevada's Black Rock Desert for this year's Burning Man celebration and found the setup to be a fantastic sleeping option. I would set up the TD stand in th evening and take it down in the morning to afford me complete room in my Monkey Hut shade structure.

Chillin' in the Shade of the Monkey Hut.

One end of the TD stand extended well into the tent.

The evening temperatures, which could run as low as the upper 30s, wound up being around the mid 60s, so the UQ was only needed a few nights.

The scenery from the hammock changed every few seconds.

The days were filled with exploration of the playa for the most amazing collection of large scale art projects and structures.

At the setting of the sun over the mountains each evening, howls would go up all across the city, welcoming the magic that is night time on the Burning Man playa.

Saturday night is when the centerpiece of the event occurs, the burning of the Man. This years theme, "Cargo Cult", focused on the belief that a number of isolated Pacific island populations adhere to that aliens from the skies (U.S. Troops during WWII) will return, again bringing with them supplies, medicines, equipment and technology that will again benefit the tribes so well as they did following their last appearance. The 30' tall Man was positioned atop a massive space ship which was approximately 4 stories tall with a diameter of over 100' and made primarily of wood. The burn on Saturday night looked like the most epic SyFy alien invasion movie of all time along with heat that was capable of melting steel! This burn was simply surrealistic!

As an artist, I absolutely flourish in the ocean of creativity at this event. I also love being radically self-sufficient and applying an alternative solution to the subject of sleeping comfortably and with style. The hammock and stand attracted the attention of quite a few people and, as usual, I had trouble getting them out of it once they had settled in.

I had an experience helping to build an art car before, it was the most elaborate and sophisticated "piece of art" I had ever seen.
I really enjoyed the show, gracias.

I need to get Burned before I die!

Awesome festival, awesome people, awesome hammock setup!
Woke up this morning, and I had those Walking Blues....

I wanna live beneath the dirt, where I'd be free from push and shove like all those swarming up above

Thanks go out to everyone. While I love nature and hanging in the trees, there truly is no other experience on this earth like the Burning Man event.

BTW, Burn only if the playa calls you. A certain recipe for disaster is to insist that someone goes with you. The environment is somewhat brutal and will give an unwilling participant plenty to kvetch about, with the real possibility of ruining the time for those within proximity.

One day I would love to put together an elaborate art car and cruise the deep playa. One day.

I've said for years to a riding buddy, that we should ditch Sturgis one year and go to Burning Man, looks like a blast.
