    Question Looking for Michigan Hike

I'm looking for a hike that I could do with a group of friends over about three days. We're looking for a trial that would allow us to hike 8-12 miles a day over three days of hiking in the lower peninsula.

We just completed the Manistee river trail and loved it.

Can somsone recomend a good place to go?

    Looking for Michigan Hike

I just hiked the NCT from Baxter Bridge to near Hodenpyle Dam about 26 miles. Really nice trail that follows the Manistee for part of the journey. Pick up the MI-05 map from the NCT office or web site as it has good detail for the section. Also, the grand traverse hiking club has a nice brochure on their website for their 100 mile section that contains this section I'm referring to. It's in their first page of what they call sections 1-4. MRT is my goto trail for something close in the lower penn. but Baxter to Hodenpyle is my second favorite with Jordan River Loop a close third.

By the way, your pic is small but looks like a guy named Tim I gave a map to on the MRT this past weekend. Maybe not but would be a funny coincidence. I wrapped up my 26mile hike with a paddle down the Manistee to Red Bridge. I'd still be hanging in my hammock along the river if not for wife and work.

The area upstream of that Baxter stretch of the NCT is nice as well. You can start at the old U.S. 131 state forest campground. It follows the river on river right off and on. I usually paddle it, but have hiked it a couple of times.

I may have forgotten to mention that we're looking for loops, we'd rather not take two cars or need someone to shuttle us back.

    Looking for Michigan Hike

Options are slim. MRT and Jordan River Pathway are approx 20 mile loops and the only loops of that length I'm aware of in the lower peninsula. High Country Pathway is the next closest loop to your needs but is approximately 80 miles. I haven't done the HCP but have done the southern portions around green timbers and shingle mill.

    Anxious to read others' suggestions.

Look into the corsair ski/ hiking trails, west of tawas. Supposedly 44 miles of trail in a spiderweb configuration.

Corsair trails are on my radar too. Never heard of anyone going up backpacking, but it looks like it fits the 1st requirement of lots of trees.

Nice video and other info about the trail here: http://www.tawasbay.com/corsair.shtml

If you go to the Pigeon River area in vanderbuilt you can find some good loops.
