    UQ's in line with Hamock?

    Hello!

I was just wondering why UQs are made lengthwise if people are laying on the diagonal? Wouldn't it make sense to create a diagonal UQ instead? Maybe with a footbed and maybe a headbed?

Has anyone tried this? If so, did it work?

ETA: Yes I know how to spell "Hammock'.

When set up correctly the quilt will be squint, like you, effectively making the baffles diagonal.

How did you know I was squint? Ha ha!

Seriously, though, I guess in all the pictures I've seen not of them seem to do that. Maybe it's just the angle?

I have no clue why I haven't seen this one before now. As always, great vid Shug. Thank you! It really showed things much more clearly than the pictures I've seen. And I have to say, getting thrown around made me laugh. Thanks!

My PLUQ is 60" long, while I am 69" long. So if the UQ is straight and I am on an angle, I fit corner to corner. I do run a short line from these corners of the UQ to the ridge line to keep it in place though.

It is a good question and one i have thought about as well.

It might be an opportunity for you to design and make something unique. Let me know what you come up with .

Ha ha! I do have something in mind already actually. I was thinking it as I wrote my original post. Who knows? Maybe I'll suddenly better my thread injector karma and create it out of necessity (I don't have an UQ yet - obviously). At one moment I did think of using the ridge line for a quick release positioning hold line like Artjrk does:

Again, something I didn't think about... the length of the diagonal!

    UQ's in line with Hamock?

My guess is for the universal nature. If you only make an uq with a left hand slant you can only use it for when lay with a left hand slant. I switch laying left or right depending on the hammock. I also lay straight when in a bridge hammock. So in that I would need 3 different quilts for the same temp range.

2 if you made the diagonal reversible.

That sounds like a plan. I might give it a crack as well - it just seems to make sense, and I only lay left to right so only need 1.
