Do you cut or shape your rectangle pad?

I have a 24" GI issue ccf pad. I've thought about shaping the pad so that it tapers down to 16-18" at the foot end.

Do any of you have any advice about the shape of a pad in the hammock? does leaving it rectangular make it uncomfortable, and likewise does shaping it make it easier to move around in the hammock etc?

I don't taper, but I do cut them in half, and lay them out in a "T" shape, to keep the chill off the shoulders. Also helps to avoid a little shoulder squeeze, but that's not really a problem with the BIAS WW, for me.

I replaced the foam back pad in my pack with another small piece of CCF. I use it in the footbox to keep my feet toasty, and a small stuff sack with cloths under my knees, if need be.

Now it's off to UQ land with the 20 degree HG clone, and a couple of pieces of CCF get to stay home.

Glad I saw this post as I wondered the same thing. I use a down inflattable but with shoulder getting colder I was thinking of cutting my blue ccf pad and fitting it for shoulder and hips.

Would like to know also. I want to build a new single layer with a pad sleeve on the bottom the cut a pad to match. This size a pocket out of M50 would weigh about 1.1oz.

Anybody build anything like this ??

I was thinkging about shapinng mine kinda like that. I went camping with my rectangle pad over the weekend. I wanted to see where I had extra foam before I started cutting since laying in a hammock will make a pad react differently than laying on the ground. I really didn't notice extra foam anywhere but my feet. I didn't really have extra foam in general. the pad cradled around my body, shoulders, and hips, so it kept my core warm. It bunched a little on the sides, but wasn't uncomfortable. My feet on the other hand had pad shooting out the side of the hammock, obviously had way to much there. I'll probably figure out where my hips site on the pad and start the taper below my hips to the width I want for my feet.

With a double layer hammock you could also just mark the edges where the foam pad sits properly or use some mitten hooks or velcro tabs etc. I think I am going to end up going that route.

I cut my CCF pad in a similar fashion & slipped it into a SPE....works great in my HH Explorer.

It's a nylon slip cover for a CCF pad. Ed Speer again.

It will have additional pockets at the shoulders and hips, in which to slide extra sections of pad, to expand the coverage around shoulders and hips.
