Question PA>Mechanicsburg: help finding a site

Wife and I are going to visit my daughter at Messiah College in Harrisburg, PA. My wife will stay with my daughter and her roommates but as the lone male I think I should find other lodgings.

Anyone know a place I can hang a hammock for the night in that area? A stealth camp would work, since my wife can drop me off at night and pick me up the next morning. Just looking to sleep. No campfire, etc.

    Thanks in advance.

501 shelter is maybe 30 miles from Harrisburg, depending when it is I could meet you there and drive you back the next day

Thanks for the generous offer JollyGreen but that's a little further than I'd like. Plus it really is just a sleep type situation so I wouldn't be good company.

I'll feed the thread. It's less than 30 mi to Pine Grove Furnace and around 6 to a State Game Land shooting range that one would assume might have some spare woods... ;-)
    YMMV

Pine Grove Furnace would be a good bet and close. The AT runs through there and you can camp along it w/o any fees. Here is a spot on top of the ridge that is close to a road and has a nice safe parking lot. The campsite is just south of the road on the AT - maybe 0.1 miles. I have camped here before some nice trees there and easy to get to - no water

    Arendtsville-Shippensburg Rd

You can get more information and see some pictures of that area here:

reference PA section 13 around 8.4 miles SOBO
    see you on the trail,

    PA>Mechanicsburg: help finding a site

I think the yellow breeches creek winds around quite close to campus. I wonder if you stealth camp along it somewhere.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I know Pine Grove Furnace from the MAHHA, but like 501, it's just a bit too far for this situation.

The Yellow Breeches does flow through campus. If I have time, I might get lucky scoping out a stealth location.

    Still open to ideas though.

What about State Game Lands 242...I'm not really sure what this is...but it's green on the google map or Gifford Pinchot State Park.

    PA>Mechanicsburg: help finding a site

Considering what I've paid putting two kids through school there, they should let me hang from any two trees on campus.
