    shock cord.?

What is the benefit to using shock cord for you tarp besides convenience? I haven't used it in extreme weather so would it blow the tarp all over the place and get me all wet?

The sc allows the tarp to flex some in the wind.
Normally the self tensioning guylines have short amounts of flexibility (4"-8"), then the actual guyline holds it firm. The sc also helps with the sil stretching as it wets out. Self tensioning lines can be made with sc or surgical rubber tubing.

Is it needed? No, imo. Is it a cool gizmo/doo-dad? yes.

I like shock cord tensioners.... https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ead.php?t=3731... a combo of line and shock cord. Keeps the tarp pitched tight and prevents sag.

Two perfect answers, I do the same with tensioners on my Cuben tarp to also help keep it from tearing off a tie down point if I get hung up on it

yup, yup, and yup. To keep tension, to prevent tears, and to give a little wiggle room when I trip over my tieouts trying to rush to the bushes in the "wee" hours of the morning.

This is a great line...now, my concern is - if we use the cool gizmo/doo-dad logic on everything on this forum we will all loose 80% of our gear!

Gargoyle - this made a perfect start to the weekend for me, well done!
