Right off the bat that's a great start IMO. It looks like you're not expecting too low temps.

Are you planning on mostly burning wood for cooking? May I suggest you bring a small alcohol stove to use for those times you are too lazy to bother with wood. It also doesn't hurt to have it as a back up as well.

Dont plan on going out under 20° or so. Alcohol stove I forgot to put that up thx for the reminder. As these great ideas come I'll add them to my list.

What kind of weather will you be hiking in. I'm guessing lots of sun and wind? Have you considered an ultralight umbrella like the ones offered by Golite? It would seem to be to be a great piece of gear if you are exposed to a lot of sun. Obviously its good for rain. I brought one on a recent trip to try it out because I find I get wet under my rain gear anyways regardless of how breathable it is. I couldn't get a really good test of it but it did come in handy a couple of times especially when I had to answer natures call.

I live in Texas but plan on hiking in Colorado and Arkansas, fall and spring mainly but wanted to be prepared because the weather here can turn at the drop of a hat. I'll have to check the umbrella out thx.

Welcome to the forum! There's a couple of us here in the DFW area. We should all hook up sometime.

The gear list you've got so far looks great.

for other small stuff, why not post what you have in the way of that right now. I.e. spork/eating utensils, cozies, cooking utensils, FAK, etc. That'll help us make better suggestions.

It would be great to get together with some experienced hangers. This is where I'm @ so far haven't ordered the tq/uq yet not sure on what temp rating I need. I plan on trying to hash that out this week when I get back on town.

+1 on the UGQ tarp, but you may as well go with the 12fter if its in the cards. more coverage is always a good thing.

That's what they suggested so I'll probably go with the 12'. If I read it right it only ways an 1 oz more.
