Cold butt syndrome strikes again. Yeeha!

Starting to cool down here in Newhampster. Low 40's high 30's at night. Especially when the skies are clear. Felt like I needed an hour or so in the hammock tonight and got it. But, whew! I could feel that cold air just blowing across my back side the whole time. And to top it off, the winds blowing around 15 knots tonight. Top side ok so far with a thick comforter but bottom side....lets just say...if I had teeth down there, they'd be chattering.
Time to think about an under quilt, me thinks. Eh?

I so hope we get a winter this year - haven't had one in a couple of years here. I have to travel to find winter.

Definitely time for some form of butt insulation! So have you been hanging way up north for a year or more with no bottom insulation?

I haven't done any winter camping. My thing is snowshoeing 2 or 3 nights a week and on weekends. I have a couple of miles of trails marked with reflectors for snowshoeing at night with a headlamp, but I'm home in the heated house after that. I would like to try an over nighter but not alone and not too far out.
It's a long walk out of the woods if your already frozen.

Last year was really cold but not much snow. We average 120" up here and probably got around 70-80 or so.
There are some trees on some of the trails here that the boy scouts marked with signs at about eye level to tell you what kind of tree it was, and I remember leaning against one to have a sandwich and seeing the sign down by my snowshoe. That puts it around 6' packed down by other snowshoers

I just got my HH and slept in it Sunday morning with a winter bag and a small thermarest. I got a little cold so I came inside and got my big agnes whiskey park bag and slid my bigger thermarest in the sleeve and slept like a baby.
