Looking for a new Tarp for a 11ft DH Darien ul

    Hi Guys and Gals,

My Hammock/tarp set as it is now=
Blackbird 1.7 with a OES Maccat Deluxe.

I am planning on a Junlge trip in November and thats why I bought orderd a Darien. I am 6''1 (1,86cm) so I took the 11ft version.

No I am seeing that my Maccat deluxe is to Short .

I am looking for a Light weight Tarp that will fit the Darien.
Maybe the MacCat Ultra but maybe there are other tarps out there that will fit.
    My Budget is about $150

Or should I go for the 10ft and stay with the Deluxe.

    Cheers and Thanks!

How about a Tadpole or Bullfrog by Wilderness Logics.

I'm curious as to why you think the MacCat Deluxe is too short.

    Thanks for the tips guys!

    @ Jolly Green.
As my Math is correct (I'm used to Metric so maybe im wrong)
    11ft=: 132 inches

    Maccat deluxe: 130 Inches

I know it bends a bid but I like my space and with the WBBB 1.7 and de Deluxe its just right. A Bigger/longer Hammock the space becomes to small.

UGQ makes some larger tarps. Perhaps look into something like the Grizz Beak
Its a proven fact that 78.4% of all statstics are made up on the spot.

Your math is correct, but the actual length of the hammock "with" the ridgeline in place is not 11ft. The ridgeline length is usually 83% of the hammocks length, so 83% of 11ft should be around 109-110". So add a few extra inches on for the fabric that extends past the RL and I would say the total length would be somewhere around 114-115". Best to contact PapaSmurf for the exact measurement, I'm sure he knows it and would be more than willing to help you out!

So while the MCD tarp has a RL length of 130, the hammock is about 115 so that leaves you 15" or 7.5" per side of coverage on the ridgeline of the tarp over your hammock.

My personal view is there needs to be at least 6" of overhang of the tarp on each side of the hammock (on the ridgeline), for proper and safe coverage. But this is JMO and I am sure others will have their own and may differ from mine.
