    Gear Hammock?

Has anyone made a gear hammock? I am wondering what good dimensions would be?

Also wondering if anyone has pics of where/how they have hung the gear hammock. Im also not clear on where you put it. I would think that if you hang it directly under you that it would be too low, unless you hung your hammock way higher.

Thinking of taking on this project. Making it will be simple, I'm just not sure how to use it in practice...

    Thanks!

Also interested in this. I've been thinking of making a few of these for my geodesic dome.

From what I've seen, I think most people hang them under the hammock. How far from the ground are you usually when you hang your hammock? I'm a pretty tall guy, & usually hang the hammock high enough that I have to push the hammock down a little bit in order to scoot into it. Usually I have to stretch to reach down & touch the ground. Might have to go a little bit higher if I want to have a gear hammock underneath and also be using my underquilt. So maybe it is easier to have one above you?

What I've been doing for storing gear when hanging from trees is using carabiners and clipping everything to my structural ridgeline. Wish I had a good picture of this, but a month ago on a backpacking trip, I had my mini-guitar, backpack, water bottle, & a couple plastic bags w/ food all clipped to the ridgeline. I slide it down near my foot when I don't need it...very convenient. Also easy to keep stuff under my rainfly this way. My bugnet is made to slide around it all, so its all close at hand if I need anything in the middle of the night.

For my geodesic dome, I'm gonna make like 3 of them, maybe 4-5 feet long, and use them for overhead storage.

I use MacEntyre's Molly Mac Gear Box. Hangs separately, and is waterproof. Basically a mini hammock with a flap, all one piece of sil.

I have acquired a gear hammock. The Jeff's Gear Hammock/Pack Cover I find the best place to put it is just above the hammock by my feet. There it is not in my way and out of the weather.

I attach the gear hammock with the Continuous Ridge Line with Two Carabiners technique. I loop the line through the door rings on my Big Mamajamba. This rigging allows the hammock to be moved horizontally along the ridge-line of the tarp.

Here's a link to a DIY version of the Molly Mac Gear Box.

DIY Molly Mac Gear Box or such?

I'm planning on eventually making one when I finish restoring my sewing machine.

    Sincerely,

    Gear Hammock?

I use a tyvek piece the size of my pads footprint in case I am forced to go to ground. I sew a channel end on the two ends and run cord through them so it can be cinched. Mitten hooks on the cord allow me to easily attach to my hammock. Everything lies below, even my pack, and is within easy reach.
