lori,I thought only cannister fuel stoves were allowed in coe park. If not I will definately have to go.

If they had asked us about that, they would have also confiscated the Whisperlite and we would have survived on a single Jetboil. It says "backpacking stoves" on the website. I interpreted that to suit.

lori, thanks for the trip report & photos. Haven't seen green grass for awhile. Actually haven't seen blue sky for a bit. Spot any trees that were potentials for one tree hanging set-ups? The top photo looks to a horizontal branch reaching out within reach. But photos can be deceptive.

The top photo was a one tree hang.

There are a zillion opportunities in that park for one tree hangs - the oaks are big enough to put two or three hammocks in, in some cases. But you have to be careful - oak trees in spring have endured a long winter of rain and soak up the water, become very heavy and split from the trunk. Sudden oak death is also a reality out here. I swang from the branch a few times before I hung. When possible in the coast range I look for madrone, the larger cousin of the sturdy manzanita, which is also very strong for its size.

The piezoelectric went out on my jetboil on my trip to Congaree Swamp a couple of weeks back. I was a little bummed that something I paid that much for broke so quickly, but I managed to struggle through and make my morning coffee by using a match.

I don't think it was the cold for me since it doesn't work now and it's 70 degrees outside.

If you are interested in any backpacks with a group check out the Fresno Madera Hiking Group on meetup.com. We go out quite a lot on dayhikes, but I have scheduled quite a few backpacking outings in Yosemite and will be putting other less popular (easier to get permit) hikes on the calendar as well.

I will very likely be heading back to Coe next year in spring. I'd be back over there this weekend if not for needing to move to a new apartment.

I'm in a couple of meetup groups out here in sacto. Found one I really like and one that just was plain irritating!
Will check out the Fresno group - thanks!
