Vet my thoughts on the SF Mini Pole mod.

I've done it and I love it.

I've seen some post discussing using shock cord to absorb wind and I completely understand that. I thought about that myself when looking at tension on the pull-outs. However, since we really don't have the pull-outs attached to something ridged, IE a stake, a tree etc. wouldn't the tarp move as a unit and not really put undo pressure on the pull-outs? So, is the shock cord really needed? Is my thinking wrong on this? Thanks all.

Makes sense. You'd think there would be more pressure tied to a tree. Have been eyeballing that mod for over a year now and actually just ordered a set of those nanolight poles. 6 poles, 4 end tips plus shipping was less than $30, can't go wrong with that. When I come across winds next time with them, I just may tie out the pull outs, just to keep it from moving all around, but from day to day usage, it looks very nice getting rid of those extra lnes.

I use shock cord, 3/16, for my tie outs. It gives me tension with flexability.

I can tell you from experience, that the tarp will move. When the wind blows on one side of the tarp, the poles tend to pull the other side up. Using lines for the tieouts may be better in high winds as it will prevent the sides of the tarp from collapsing in.
