    Straps/buckles Vs. Whoopies/toggles

I'm trying to get some weights of suspension systems. has anyone weighed or know the difference in weight between a buckle and straps setup and a whoopiesling and toggle system?

    Hello Hammonkey,

I'm new here, so I don't feel overly authoritative on this subject. But this is what I've got as it stands, and works well for me.

My treestraps and UL climbing biners come to about 240g, which is a fingernail under 8.5 Ounces. I use a kinda cow-hitch to sling up the hammock ropes to the UL carabiners. If someone comes in with their whoopie setup you might get somewhere, but I imagine it'd be even lighter.

My scale only weighs to the nearest ounce but here's what I have found:

Warbonnet straps and buckles (no carabiners) = 6-7 oz
6' whoopies with aluminum toggles and Clark tree straps = 6-7 oz

You might shave off a little with other tree straps - Clark straps are 2" wide.

The whoopies and tree straps pack slightly smaller, but not that much.
You didn't ask but, for me, the nod goes to web and buckles for ease of use and less parts to keep track of.

Here is some of my tree straps with there breaking strength and length. I also included some other suspension items and their size. I only had 1 set of whoopies to show because I use UCRs now. It is 1/8" Amsteel, not the normal 7/64" size whoopie. So it will be a few grams heavier than the others.

    My 6ft 7/64 amsteel whoopies weigh 37g, or 1.3oz
9ft black 1200# bs straps from readystrap weigh 136g for the pair, or 4.8oz
Aluminum toggles weigh 4g per pair, or ~.1oz

Total is around 6.2oz. I cut a bit of weight going to dynaglide UCR's, which are only 13g for the pair. I also have some polypro straps that are also 9ft that only weigh 99g per pair.
I may be dumb, but at least I'm ugly!

I've done so much, with so little, for so long, now I can do anything with nothing.

It's not peer pressure, it's just your turn.
