    hammock ridgeline help

ok, I have a DIY hammock and want to add a ridgeline for my son. I am going with about a 90 line for the sag he wants and need to tie the knots. What is the best way to attach this ridgeline to leave there forever not to take off and on? I have looke at google and lot of people talk about setting a ridgeline up but few describe the knots used to leave. I have whoopies on the end.

This explains it very well. http://www.tothewoods.net/HomemadeHammock4.html
Use a Hennessy type figure 8 lashing on one end. Or any knot you prefer. http://hennessyhammock.com/media/C37/#content

Are your whoopies larkes headed to the hammock or thru the channel? If larks headed then do the same with your SRL. Splice an eye in each end of the SRL and larks head it to the whoopie. Make sense?
    Good luck,

I would say they're larks headed on. As in this video (not mine)where your hammock is the wooded dowel and the red string your whoopie. Now if you have eyes spliced in your ridge line you do the same thing except now the dowel is the whoopie and the SRL is the red string.

    Good luck,

Contacted Jeff on his page. I used that page to figure out sag but the figure 8 knot just feel down. He doesn't go into detail on how he got the knots to hold . When you tell someone just to make a figure 8 overhand with a bite it makes me go huh? If you are a newbie on knots it forces you to search the net for what a overhand knot with a bite is. I love videos for this kind of thing I am a visual learner . No shug vids on setting a hammock ridgeline up including the knots.
On a side note I also seen you switched to a new UL cuben tarp would love to see a video on your continuous ridgeline setup including knots and hardware if you are still setting up that way. i searched your how to's and lots changed in 3 years. .

I will try and take it apart to see what I have. So just run any kind of knot through the larks head or just the rope with no knot. How would I tie a rideline to a whoopie so it wouldn't slip down?

Lets see if this makes sense. First, AnimatedKnots is an excellent resource. I think any knot I'm about to mention is covered there. So in the following photos I mocked up a hammock with a towel the knot of fabric is to the right and the hammock body is to the left. In the first photo I have a whoopiesling larks headed to the hammock in what should be under the knob of fabric, its the silver cord.

I the second photo the green line is the ridge line. There is a loop in the end of the ridge line. Whether you splice one or tie a bowline in there but somehow get a loop in the end of the ridge line. The ridge line is being larks headed to the whoopiesling is open so you can see what's going on.

In the third picture the green ridge line is tight and bearing down on the silver whoopiesling. That's all there is to it.

Do be afraid to say so if it still doesn't make sense.
    Good luck,

Spliced eye on the end of the yellow ridgeline, placed through the larks head (which runs through the hammock end channel) of the grey whoopie sling and then the whoopie sling is run through the eye of the ridgeline.

Hope the photos explain it better.
