+1, and though it is like a hammock that hangs under your real hammock, it is not meant to hold any weight past possible a couple of lbs, if even that. It is a water resistant ( or water proof depending on which one you are considering) and wind resistant piece of nylon that surrounds your hammock and UQ to protect them from wind and rain.
I use my poncho as I am already carrying it. It is more for a windblocker than a splash guard. In winter it can hold a trash bag insulator too (google: garlington insulator)
Ahh, okay. That makes sense. Yea I don't worry about the splashes either, its the wind I just grabbed a 15 degree UQ to complete my winter set up, and winter is rearing its head around the corner, so I think I should grab a UQP because I have experienced that wind sapping all heat.

UQP will give you a few more degrees of heat as well as protect from splashing or blowing rain or snow. They work and don't weigh that much at all for the protection they provide. Not that you require or absolutely need them with today's synthetics or water resistant down available. Just another very nice piece of gear to have especially in the extreme cold and blowing rain.
