VA, Grayson Fall Festival Hang, 27-30 Oct - Trip Report

Great hangout. We had about 34-35 folks show up. Weather was really good for change -no rain. Today was all sunny -mostly. Thanks to all who came and donated for the raffle. Slowhike will forward donations to Friends of Grayson Highlands State Park for the benefit of the park. At last count we had about $280 +/- a dollar or so.

A couple pictures from the Saturday night food orgy. More to come as others return and add to the Pile! Yes. photos, it did happen.

Hey - it was great meeting everybody and spending some time (even though it was short) around the campfire. With teenage daughters, I've come to realize any time I can get them in the woods is great.

Thanks to Rockdawg and Slowhike and everybody else for the great food, the site, and the planning. Oh and the weather was made to order!

Slowhike and his 2kids,Homerun, Gray Jay, Professor ,Davy Ray,and myself all cut out about 11:30 Monday. Thanks Rockdog & Slowhike for the organization. Met many new folks. A few more thoughts and pics.

A sample of events: Wayne Henderson Group on the stage, many other groups over the 2 days - bluegrass, gospel, mountain music, clogging, B-B-Q, Apple Butter (the real stuff), blacksmith, molasses cooking, fried pies, crafts, and on and on. Sorry if anyone planned to come and missed the fun.

    Our Purpose: Hammock Camping Demonstrations
    Plan for next year now.

We had kids, dogs, moms, dads, old hikers, etc.. We had ultralight fanatics, and one person who actually slept on the ground.

    Great gathering.

I have the jacket that was left behind on Saturday. Let me know if you lost it, and I'll mail it to you.

I didn't get any pics but took a short video of the music "Mule Skinner Blues" at the festival. It will give you a flavor.
Nearby they were making homemade apple butter in a large kettle while hot hobo pies pies were being called out.

    Good time but too short

Had a good time but could only stay Friday night and half day Saturday. But I did make into one of the pics! Thanks for the food handouts! Nice seeing some infrequently seen friends.
