I used to use continuous loops on the tarp prusiked to a CRL. Its very easy to centre a tarp. Nowadays I just have the prusiks on seperate lines on each end of the tarp. I found no real difference or advantage of the CRL over having two separate lines and I save over 10 feet of cordage that goes over the tarp.

Zing-it, Lash-it, same stuff different color.

Experiment, using prussics,, dutchware, dogbones, whatever, you find works for you. Then break out either of the above.

This is not a structural part of your suspension. In fact you rather would prefer having stakes pull or tie outs break, before allowing the actual tarp material rip or tear. Dyneema is probably actually overkill, in that order, but it's slight weight savings and ability to take a splice, makes it the preferred choice atm.

I use braided mason line to make all non structural prototypes. It's cheap, takes knots well, but is not really for splicing. Once you have things how you like, break out the Dutchware and the Fids.

Ok thank you everyone! I have been looking at diagrams and I think I understand it.
Where would be a good place buy zing it at a good price? What length should I buy for each tarp you think?

I get my Zingit from Dutchware. He sells it by 25ft sections. Pretty good price on it too.

Thanks Cowboy. I am working on simplifying the whole setup. It should not take so long and be so frustrating to get it all hung correctly.

The best way is with a CRL using only one prussik. It allows you to slide the tarp freely on the RL. Instead of having to go to one end, slide it, then go to the other end, slide it. You go to which ever end you wanna slide it towards and pull that end to move the tarp exactly where you want it. I think there's a video on The Ultimate Hang website, if not I can send you a link when I get to my computer.

If you're making it for four hammocks check out treestuff.com for the zing it. They're prices are great and they sell 180' spools of it. Believe me, you'll use that stuff faster than you think.

    Is the attached pic from

    the method you mean?

The problem with that method (for me) is that you are sawing through the tree bark with your ridgeline when adjusting the tarp. It's not extremely easy to adjust for varying tree spacing, (and diameter) either. Keeping the tarp off the ground is a priority for me.

I've tried a few methods for plain and DIY tarps and I like to put the ridgeline up first and get it tensioned (truckers hitch or Fig9). The tarp has mini-carabiners, the ridgeline has prussik loops. I clip the tarp under the ridgeline and adjust the position and tension with the prussiks. It keeps the tarp off the ground when pitching and taking down. Disadvantage (for some folks) is that there is no 'Y' in the tarp suspension.

There are lots of ways of doing this stuff.
Some cordage, pre-made prussik loops, and a few mini-carabiners and you can spend some time experimenting to find a way you like.

Use 2 lines, one off each ridgeline tie out. Run the cord around the tree, then tie a tautline hitch back on itself.

Me personally, if you want things simple and easy then I suggest some Dutch Tarp Flys and some zingit. You can get everything from his site and he even has pre-made kits. Also, I would go with end tie-outs vs CRLs.
