    Why become a donating member

Full Disclosure: I had let my "membership" lapse because I kept forgetting.

Now that I'm back on I want to let people know what they are missing.

There are several sub-forums beginning with: Roundtable Off Topic (OT) followed by Backpacks, Camp Kitchen, Clothing, Cutlery, Other Gear and DIY, Paddling, Backpacking, and Bikepacking.

Yesterday I started reading a thread titled Without Merit, which can best be described as sitting around the campfire and just talking about whatever comes to mind. It's like being on a mini-roller coaster where you go up and down as people share their highs and lows. It is also an opportunity to get to know people better.

I was on page 6 when I realized I was reading 2009 postings and that (from
what was visible to me) there were 100+ pages! Checked this morning (I'm on page 71) and there are 224 pages...and counting.

Hope this decription will be an incentive for others to become donating members as you do get a lot of bang for your bucks. Go to the top and look for the Beome a Donating Member option.

Mods: it would be interesting to know if there is a membership surge in the next week or so.

+1 on becoming a donating member. I love the Camp Kitchen and Roundtable Off Topic sections (a few months ago I read the whole Without Merit thread....I'm sure that I'm many pages behind now, but every so often I check on it).

+1 on being a Donating Member...I plan to stay a DM because this site provides me with endless knowledge and support on a hobby I love to do. And I am able to meet new people that also share the same interests. The DM section is great for all those topics that arnt directly hammock related. Lots of good discussions there.

I looked at the "donate" link. It looks like you have to mail it in? Is there an option to pay with PayPal? I have learned so much from all of you that a donation feels necessary.

Select the amount you want to donate, then click on the Order button. The next screen has an option to pay with PayPal.

    on this question.

I 'decided not to bother' when I saw the 'mail it in' notice... then came back a few weeks later after deciding to put up with the trouble of mailing a cheque..and was pleasantly surprised to find the PayPal option once I proceeded.

The moderators should change the wording to make sure the PayPal option is mentioned on the first page, before you need to click on 'Donate'.

It would also be smart to have the 'Access by donation only' sub-forums at least listed on the main page - I couldn't see what I was missing, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
