    Continuous loops

Hey everyone, have a question for anyone who would know.... when making a continuous loop.... what is the minimum length of burry I should do?... what is the best length of burry?.... say on a 12 inch loop!

6-8'' is good for a 12'' loop. 2'' is fine if the loop is not weight bearing.

4" minimum, but don't rely on it for strength in a 12" loop.

I cut mine at 36" and make them with 6" buries. For my DL 1.9 hammock which can occasionally have two people in it I made them with 40" line and 8" buries. Each yield 10-11" loops, which are perfect for gathered end hammocks.

I use a Juki & Pfaffs w/ assorted attachments, and have serviced lots of vintage machines. Any questions?

Somewhere recently I read that the bury should be 70 times the diameter of the rope. That means about a 7 1/2" bury for 7/64" Amsteel.
So - a load bearing loop would end up being about a 15" circumference.
That's why I have decided that when I need a small loop I will use a fisherman's knot.

70 times the ropes dia. sounds way overboard! in my readings I see 20-25 and if you want to over do things, go for 30 = 3.25 length bury for 7/64ths line- life just got a bit simpler!

OK - I looked it up - the instructions that came with my Amsteel from Sampson's rope says the bury should be 3 1/2 fids. A fid is 21 times the diameter of the rope. That seems like a lot but...

Thanks for all the great information.....looks like a 3 1/2 inch burry on 1/8th line is a bit tooooo short for a load bearing loop....... back to the drawing board I go
