My take on single line suspension

    Hi guys,
Long time reader, first time poster.
These forums have been an awesome resource for me as I am very new to hammocking.
I have just finished making myself a single line/double ucr suspension system to replace the stock rope system on my HH Exp. I had to order a bunch of amsteel from the states as I couldn't find any reasonably priced equivalent here in Australia.
I'll try to attach a diagram of what I did but in case I can't figure out how I'll also try to explain my set up without being too confusing...
Starting at the centre, I have a piece of cord with an alpine butterfly knot set at each end 55" from the centre. Outside that on each end I have a UCR with an 11" bury ending in a fixed eye. The UCR has around 7' of tail. My tarp is connected to the suspension line via hooks and prussics on the outside of the UCR bury. Set up is quick and easy. I simply attach the suspension with tarp pre-attached to my tree straps via carabiners or soft shackles, then tension the ridge. I then attach my hammock to the alpine butterfly knots with soft shackles...
    ...hopefully that makes some sense.
Anyhoo, thanks to everyone for the ideas and advice, and happy hanging.[IMG][/IMG]

Nice setup for a hammock with a fixed 110" ridgeline.
    Congrats!

While others have reported using similar setups, be aware that knots typically reduce the minimum breaking strength of amsteel to 1/3 of it's rated strength and there's no reason to think that the alpine butterfly knot would be any different.

Very similar to the SLS I'm using. In place of the Alpine Butterfly loops I buried the ends of short hammock UCRs in the main line for the reason gmcttr mentions. They also allow adjustment of the hammock ends. I also permanently attached the tree straps into the UCR end loops. Won't be able to misplace this set.

Thanks gmcttr. I hadn't considered that, although I am using 1/8" amsteel so that should help alleviate some of the risk.
I am planning on stealing olddog's idea and getting rid of the knots and instead installing a short ucr with fixed eye as per the right hand side of the diagram below. Thanks for that olddog!
I'll give it a crack tomorrow and see how it works. I'll get some photos once I've got it to point where I'm satisfied.
    Thanks bruinfan and Loki.

    Rock on!

I've been tinkering with my SLS set up.
I've pretty much just reversed the direction of the UCRs so the sleeve end now connects to the tree straps. It means the prussics for the tarp don't interfere with the UCRs anymore. Also the snake skins are a bit easier to use this way
The UCRs are connected to the fixed ridge via a soft shackle, which is also where the hammock is connected.
I'm fairly happy with how it all works, which is fortunate as I've nearly run out of amsteel.
