    Imusa Frying Pan w/ Mod

    Hello DIY Forum
I found a 6.3 inch non-stick frying pan made by Imusa, yesterday in Walmart. I picked it up. Immediately I knew it was light, but how light? The pan was only 4.97. I had to have it. When I got home I weighed it. 6.9oz with lid, not bad.
I figured I could lighten it up with a few modifications. First thing, I got rid of the lid. I wanted to get rid of the plastic handle. I had two reasons for this. I cook over fire when ever possible. Plastic and fire no good. Also it was too heavy.
Now I needed a new handle. The new handle had to be fire resistant and removable or foldable. I used a wire coat hanger for the new handle. I drilled two small holes in the remainder of the pan handle. So the new handle could be attached. See pics for a better explanation below:

    Gram Weenie Stats
    Pot w/ no Mod. 6.9oz
    Pot no Lid. 4.2oz
    Pan no handle. 3.2oz
    Pan handle Mod. 3.5oz

Heading to Wally World today. Been wanting a light weight fry pan for my 3 - 7 day excursions. Will do the same mods. Thanks for posting this, Stitch!

Great mod! I was thinking about a way to make the handle removable for better packing but I like this better.

This is removable as well. Just squeeze it and remove.

Right. To clarify I was thinking of ways to allow one to disconnect the OEM handle but I think I prefer your method better. Have you tried it yet? How is the heat transfer?

I like the pot and the mod but would add a wire figure 8 link that slides up and down the handle. make the loops snug but not tight. That way when the link is slid toward the pot you can squeeze the handle without dumping the pot. ;-)
    YMMV

I cooked a grilled cheese in it. It worked great. I used my DIY Wood Gas Stove.

I understand what you are saying. I used the bent section of the hanger. There is a lot of tension from the bend. The tension holds it very well. I don't foresee the handle coming loose.
