    Hammocks aren't mainstream my arse!!

I went up to Burrells Ford yesterday for an overnighter and saw just as many hammocks as I did t**ts. I started wondering if maybe there was an unofficial Burrells Ford Pre Hang (we're having an official hang in a couple weeks) I didn't know about.

Looking at all the campsites along the trail I think it's safe to say that hammocks are no longer a fringe thing. They've at least got a foot dangling in the mainstream. Unless of course it was just a fluke weekend.

Nope, your probably right. A few years ago I was in the Smokeys and the only campers I ran across were in hammocks. Weird thing was none of them had heard about HammockForums. So I spread the word and passed on as many tips and tricks as they could take in.

I think I would agree. I see them more and more along those trails. Just hoping they are all taking care as we hfers do

Over the past year I've been camping a lot more, and in my neck of the woods, I havn't come across any other hangers (that is besides the people that I've introduced to hanging).

It could be a regional thing. I live in the Southeast. Ga, SC and NC have the highest concentration of forum members and if the forum is a microcosm of hammock hanger concentrations in the country then we have the highest concentration of hangers.

And considering I was in the Ellicott Rock Wilderness, where those three states come together I guess you could say I was in the hammock epicenter of the country.

From what I've read, the AT is more hammock friendly than the PCT, which could also make a difference. But hey, if the PCT hikers plan it just right, they could hammock the whole trail too =]

Here in IL I haven't seen any hammockers yet. Even had a older couple come and ask the lady friend and I about our hammocks. They thought they were some type of cocun. Guess they look kinda like that with the bug nets on.

in Mass and VT we have seen a number of other hangers. Though since I met Raiffnuke out on the trail I have yet to meet another person on the trail that knew of the forums.

    You might like this pic.

But back to the topic, I've gotten a few people into hammock camping that never thought about leaving the yard with the Enos they had. I would agree that there isn't the prevalence in the upper Midwest that others have talked about.
