    New in central Texas

I'm a pre-newbie hanger, scouter and father of an older scout, who has been looking for a different approach. I've read the Ultimate Hang, browsed the web and this forum. Now thinking about hammocks for my son and I. (I'm probably never going to sew my own gear.) Investigating the WB alternatives, with a BB probably first up...

Coming from a military family, I did hang quite a bit camping in Thailand in the 70s. It made a lot of sense over there ("snakes... I hate snakes").

Currently in Austin (hey, it's my fourth "tour" in TX), interested in good local places to hang and local get-togethers. Thanks for making Hammock Forums what it is.

    WELCOME! to the madness...
Our son is headed for Alaska on his first deployment. We talked about the hammock thing, but don't think he's interested (in -40º temps )

Welcome from the DFW area. As far as group hangs go, Fairfield is in a few weeks and would be a great way to get your feet wet. Here's a link to the planning thread.

We did the loop at Lake Georgetown earlier in the Spring. Its not too far from you and a pretty nice hike.

    Anyway.... Welcome!

There's a big hang at Fairfield State Park in November, check the Outings Forum for that. There will be close to a hundred hangers there with every kind of set up you can possibly imagine. Group hangs are the best way to learn.

    Welcome from Rosenberg!
