If your really worried about the end channels, Go and pick up a roll of gutterman upholstery thread from joanns or similar. It was what I always used before we started having our hammocks made in PA. Now we use a size 138 polyester thread that comes on like a 3lb spool lol. Its so strong that I carry some camping for general purpose twine and such.
EDIT: This is what we use now, but it will not work in a home machine, that I know of.
