Please don't put the zing it around the trees. Tree straps are what is enabling us to convince park management that we won't harm the trees. They cringe when they see anything that closely resembles rope wrapped around their trees.

I use tree straps for both my hammock and my tarp - 4 aluminum toggles for marlin spike hitches.

Guy line tie outs are: 4' for the middle guy-outs, 6' on the corners and 8' on the panel pull-outs. With a CRL and prussic, I can hang the tarp and then center it at will. The under tarp ridgeline is really convenient for hanging stuff on!!

I've seen people recommend tree straps instead of rope to suspend their hammock but that is the first I've seen to use tree straps for your tarp as well.

That would appear to be a minority opinion - I have yet to meet anyone actually using tree straps for their tarp since it's not a weight-bearing situation like the hammock. I also haven't seen any cottage vendors selling a tarp suspension system with tree straps, so that tells you something.

Now if you were in the habit of hanging a bunch of stuff off your tarp ridgeline, or lived in a state that was not hammock-friendly, then tree straps might be advisable. The OP doesn't live in such a place.

First I've heard this too... I understand that 'perception is reality' and if tarp lines are perceived to do damage then that's a bad thing, but you'd have to be nutty to think my tarp's ridgeline is going to cause damage overnight... I'm not going to give that nonsense any credence by altering my method because of it.

Tarp lines can and do damage trees. Mostly due to the "sawing" action as the rope slides over the bark as you tension the ridge line.
