    Possible down source?

I was looking around on ebay for sources of cheap down - maybe a used sleeping bay to harvest down from. Instead of a used bag, what do you guys think about this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121189578078...84.m1423.l2649

if your going the pillow route you might want to search for bloomingdales "my luxe" pillows on there, they are 800fp and about the same price, i have used them and the down rating seems accurate to me

And I'm skeptical about it being 100% down of any fill, 750 or otherwise, most of those cheaper pillows come with alot of feathers.

Scroll down a bit to what others are buying

    (2) My Lux 800FP European Goose Down, King, med firm pillows. 120.00

Doesn't say how much fill, ounce per pillow, but can 1 pillow have more volume than 2?
I suppose, but in this case I doubt it.

Both appear to be fairly high quality down. Harvesting can be a pain and a mess, but there can be savings to be had for the industriously patient. Like the above post stated. It's all in the feather count.

Thanks Rolloff, sounds like better quality down. Also, that seller has several different auctions running. I might get lucky and get a set for a good price.

Which ever route you decide to go, make sure you post a report of which seller, which type of auction you went with, and what the results were.

You won't be able to truly tell fill power, but the weight of the fill, if there's feathers, etc.

I refuse to gamble with ebay sellers like that I got burned on it twice, paypal fixed it both times but it took weeks... but if you want to, you know.... go first, and get good results... then maybe

    Possible down source?

Keep looking for sleeping bags on Ebay as well. I lucked into a ratty, vintage Thaw sleeping bag with what I measured as 750-800 FP down. The well worn tag in the auction listing said 2 pounds of down fill, so I gambled for $55.

I harvested about 31 ounces by my measurement.
