    Lake Lila Adirondacks

It was the first hang in almost a year after ground dwelling with the family for my summer trips. The weather for October was amazing, and second only to the beautiful surroundings of Lake Lila. Site #6 on Canada Island was reached after paddling in on water that was so flat that it was hard to distinguish between the surrounding mountains, and their reflections on the water.

Two nights in the low 40s and sunny days in the mid 60s, great paddling, good fishing, and a nice hike mixed in!

It has been a while since I visited Lila. Thanks for bringing back the memories. Did you have it relatively to yourself, or was it busy?

It got a little busy given it was a beautiful Columbus Day Weekend, but not too bad. I think the opening of the Essex Chain of Lakes property took away a lot of day trippers that otherwise might have been keeping us company.

Love Lake Lila - this is the first year in the last four I haven't gone there in the fall (we chose Little Tupper-Rock Pond this year).

Nice weather this time of year - chilly enough in the evening, not too cold in the day. I never stayed on Canada Island but I've stayed on every other island.

    Lake Lila Adirondacks

Glad to bring back good memories for everyone! It was my first time there, and I'll definitely be going back. It was a nice change from getting snowed on last year at Long Pond

Dmatt, how was the carry from the parking lot. We got to Little Tupper every year and have been talking about going to Lila instead. We've been reluctant due to our heavy canoes. How is the trail, tight and rocky?

I've lugged my 85 lb. Old Town Discovery 169 down that trail several times (well, two people have lugged it!). It's only a third of a mile, but the trail is relatively decent.

It is not decent enough for the average canoe caddie, however. I've seen several people destroy their canoe caddies on that trail with all its roots and rocks.

    Lake Lila Adirondacks

The trail was pretty easy going with a heavy duty cart(bicycle tires and good clearance). We wore our packs so we could lift over some of the roots. It's wide and rocks aren't too much of an issue, there are just a lot of roots at offset angles. The local ranger was there when we pulled in, and it was his advice not to overload the canoe for navigating the roots...great advice.

The trail is only .3 miles and only two or three sections of that are problematic. Payoff far outweighs the struggle.

*disclaimer: terms like "easy going" can be taken with a grain of salt, as a member of Lean2Rescue, we have done thing that canoe cart designers never envisioned

Great photos! You're right, that water looked like glass.
