    Tarp for dual-hammock setup

I was wondering if anyone on the forum uses the dual configuration of two hammocks with one tarp. Usually the hammock setup would have both hammocks tied to the same two trees, but have one tied to an outreaching branch to give space. The reason for asking is that I'm not sure what the best tarp size would be for a setup like this. I'm hoping someone on the forum has at last had this train of thought before.

I have used a warbonnet big mambajamba tarp for two hammocks, but it barely covered the two hammocks. Would NOT have been good in a driving rain.

After that trip, I started shopping for larger tarps, and ended up ordering a custom OES 12x10 winter tarp with a few extra tieouts. I've been busy with other stuff lately, and haven't gotten a chance to set it up outdoors yet, but I really like the tarp so far. Craftsmanship is top notch, and it seems like it'll definitely provide plenty of coverage. Can't wait to get it set up.

My son and I hang all the time in our 10X12 Cat Tarp that my wife makes. We have hung side by side using the same trees, and using 3 trees. We have plenty of coverage, and I wouldn't be afraid to hang in a downpour with him

Funny that you both decided on 10-12. I was already set on OES from some other people who gave me advice, I just need to decide if the spinul is worth the extra cash. Thanks for your help

Hey, Jared--FWIW, I also decided on 10x12 for double-hang, and I just ordered a 10x12 from Brian in SpinnUL. Also ordered additional tie-outs, and tieout lines. So it ended up being a little pricey, but I figure I am getting a first-class tarp that is lightweight and perfect for the use. Also, I was influenced a bit by this thread, which if you haven't seen it you might enjoy reading--I definitely will use this method of double-hanging using three trees: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=6624
    Good luck.

The Sportsman's Guide Guidegear 12' x 12' tarp has served me well for this application. I sewed a couple of extra tabs on it so that it can be hung on the square instead of on the diamond.

    Had any trouble

with the waterproofing on that Guide Gear tarp? I Just took it on a trip and it sweat right through as well as really began to stretch and sag from the water it soaked up.

you know, i'm really suprised that with "17 tie-out points" as the ad says, you needed to tie EXTRAS to tie it on the square. haha

I just picked up the Guide Gear 12x12 and was also surprised that with all the tie outs there weren't any at the center points of the sides so it could be hung square.

Does anyone have any experience with this tarp on the trail? Someone suggested it to me as being a candidate for use as a hammock tarp tent.

    double hang tarps

Just ran across this thread on tarps for double hanging.
We use a Jacks R Better 10' x 11' syl nylon tarp when double hanging. It seems to provide sufficient coverage for us, even during some pretty good rainstorms. Haven't gotten wet yet. When we hang double we have the head at one end for one, and at the other end for the other.
