    Hello All...
Been a ground dweller until I started reading a bit about these hammock things. Based upon research here, bought myself a Blackbird 1.1 double. Tried it out Friday night...pouring rain here in Western Mass, but set up in the yard...NICE STUFF....Fell asleep about 11, didn't wake up at all until about 3:30 (just checked the time and went back to sleep). Really comfortable sleep.

Just wanted to thank everyone here for creating such a great resource. The BB is great, will be using it a lot this summer.

Nice! It is really hard to read over and over again how great the BB is without getting one... I have never seen such uncontested love for a product as there seems to be for the BB...

    Welcome to the forums!

Welcome to the addiction BTW let us in on some more of the juicy details of your first night in a hammock. How cold did it get? What did you use for insulation?

I've checked out the video's on the blackbird and that looks like a very interesting hammock, I wish there was someone near me so I could actually see one.

Capref, which tarp did you use and how did it do in the "pouring" rain???

Friday it got down to about 45, so not too cold. Had a very thin Western Mountaineering bag ((the Highlite....one pound!) http://www.westernmountaineering.com...2&ContentId=16). I tend to sleep fairly warm though... I spent a week in Antarctica (climbing Vinson) in a -20F bag when the overnight (dusk really...daylight lasts almost 24 hours when I was there) temps were -40F...but that was in a tent.

Ordered a MacCat Deluxe tarp, but it will not be here for a couple weeks. Sounds like everyone here loves them though, so I am looking forward to it. As a result, I just rigged up a Home Depot 'blue tarp' to keep me dry. For a pad, I used a Thermarest z-rest folding pad, tucked in the pocket of the BB. Also wore a softshell jacket.

Was pretty comfortable except when my feet or shoulders would roll off the pad...would readjust position and be just fine though. Will probably get some Volara so I can widen out the comfort zone.

As soon as I get the MacCat I will try to do some 'real time' out on the Long Trail in Vermont....hoping to get out for a weekend in next 2-3 weeks.

Welcome former gound dweller. Hope your checkbook is okay as we tend to have a lot of "new" choices here all the time. there is always one more piece of something that needs to be tried out. No such thing as a "perfect" set of gear.
